- The Movie is about a Woman who has a baby out of wedlock…And abandons the baby because she isn’t married….Chaplin finds the baby in an alley way at first tries his hardest to get rid of baby.. He ends up raising the baby till he is 5 years old and actually him and the kid go into business togther scamming people for money while the kid breaks windows and Charlie fixes them. After 5 years the woman has become a star and is living high but never forgets about her Kid she left. She meets the kids father at about same time period at a get togther and tells him he cant make up for walking out on her. She goes and gives poor kids toys and things in the street and meets her boy while doing this it isn’t for a long time till the kid gets sick and the doctor asks Chaplin is he the father of the kid does anyone actually notice it isn’t his kid.. The doctor gets in touch with the welfare services of the county and they come to take the kid to an orphange. Then the mother comes by Chaplins loft and the doctor gives her the note that Chaplin had given the doctor to why he had the kid. The woman recognizes it is her note and puts add in paper for anyone who knows where they are at to get her kid back. Chaplin and the kid go to a Boarding house and the guy who runs it is reading paper and puts the description and the kids looks togther and takes kid to police station while Chaplin is sleeping the mother comes to get him, when Chaplin wakes up don’t see the kid he is frantic and is looking all over town for him well after awhile a policemen that Chaplin had been dodging while doing his work found him and at end of the movie reunites Chaplin the woman and the Kid…..
I Took from the movie how good of a writer Chaplin is..And had a lot of good symbols in it like beginning of movie she had weight of god on her shoulders while she was deciding to do with the kid the movie goes to a scene with a photo of a Statue of Jesus carrying a huge cross on his shoulders. And she passes a couple who is getting married where the woman don’t look happy at all, and her husband while walking down the stairs to chapel steps on a flower. Which Symbolized to me the guilt she must have had with her for having a baby out of wedlock. For a silent movie it really did a good job getting the plot line and the point across from the movie….It was really well Written and the music fit the movie quite well with the plot of the story. - Director.
